JDS - Sing your Heart Out

Good Day my crafty friends!

It's once again time for our mid month post for Jan's Digi Stamps using a stamp set that is on Sale for the month of May. 

Today's card was quite fun to do and I am happy to share how I did it.

Sing your Hear Out

First step in this card was to create the background:

Using Accent Opaque 80lb, I did a technique called Ink Smooching with Distress Oxide Vintage Photo and Fossilized Amber. This technique is quite simple, all you do is put some ink on your work surface and spray a little bit of water. You then take your cardstock and pickup the ink here and there. Let the ink dry and repeat until you are happy with the result. What I like with Distress Oxide Inks is that you can build up different colors without creating mud which is why I used both colors without any issues.

Once I was quite happy with the ink smooching, there was still some white areas left on the cardstock so I went in with my blender brush and added a light touch of Fossilized Amber.

Once I was happy with the result, it was time to add the final touch to the background. In order to do that, I downloaded a sheet of music that I found online and printed it on top of my background. I have to mention that it was a little difficult for my printer to recognize that my cardstock was there as it was still a little warped due to the water but after a few attempts it finally worked and I am quite happy with the result.

Next step was to print and color my Guitar:

I first downloaded my digital stamp called Dad & Son from Jans Digi Stamp Shop and resized it to 5" x 1.87". Please note that since I am using Accent Opaque 80lb, I made sure that the setting on my printer was "Thicker Paper", this helps the toner to cure properly so that I can use Alcohol Markers.

I then used my Ohuhu markers to color the image. Here is what I used:

PB4, PB2, PB1

My next step was to cut all my layers and glue them together. Here are the sizes and Cardstock used:

Cardbase - Accent Opaque 100lb 11 x 4.25" scored at 5.5"

Black Layer - Accent Opaque 80lb 5.25" x  4" (cardstock is a piece of scrap that I inked the sides using my Ohuhu 120 Black)

Background - Accent Opaque 80lb 5" x 3.75"

To add a little dimension, I glued 2 more guitars under my main one. Everything was then glued with Tombow Multi Glue or double sided Scor-Tape.

For the final touch, I drew a few music notes with my Micro Pen and that finished the card, quite easy and simple but really fun to do.

JDS - Salty Kisses and Sandy Toes

Hello and Good Day my dear Crafty Friends!

Today's DT Card is once again featuring the wonderful Jan and her brand new Digital Stamp Set called Sand Box. It was so much fun creating this pretty Mini Slimline Card as it reminded me that Summer is almost here!

To create this pretty beach scene, I first printed my images and sentiment on Accent Opaque 80 lb Cardstock and then proceeded to add my colors.

Here is the list of Copic, Ohuhu and Distress Oxide used:

Sky: Distress Oxide - Broken China - Using a blender brush and a handmade cloud stencil, I lightly applied ink to the top portion of the panel.

Sea: Copic - B21 and White Gelly Roll 08

Sand: Copic - E33, E35, E37

Bucket: Ohuhu - G1, G2, GY8

Whale: Ohuhu - GG3, GG1, Copic - B21

Sea Shell: Copic - R22, R21, R20

I then glued all my panels together using Gina K Connect Glue. Here are the dimensions of each panels: 

Card Base: Accent Opaque 100 lb - 6" x 7" scored at 3 1/2"

Black Panels: 3 x Accent Opaque 80 lb inked with a black marker - 5 3/4" x 3 1/4"

Top Panel: Accent Opaque 80 lb - 5 5/8" x 3 1/8"

JDS - I REEL-Y MISS YOU!

Good Morning my Crafty Friends!

Once again, it's time for a card featuring Jan's Digital Stamp Shop using this wonderful set called Gone Fishin. This new set is on sale for the month of April so it's your chance to go grab it.

I REEL-Y MISS YOU!

Today's card was quite simple and easy to do and here is how I did it.

I first sized and printed the Fishing Basket and Rod at approximately 2" x 3.3" on Accent Opaque 80 lb and colored the image with the following Markers:

Basket - Copic: E33, E35, E37

Rod - Ohuhu: G5, G8, G7 and GG1, GG2, CG5

The basket and Fishing Rod were then fussy cut and stacked 3 times to give it a little dimension.

I then proceeded to ink 2 pieces of Hill Shaped cardstock with Distress Oxide Mowed Lawn. The sky was inked using a Cloud Shaped Hand-made stencil and a light touch of Distress Oxide Broken China.

I printed the sentiment and matted it with some black cardstock and then proceeded to assemble the card. Here are my panel sizes:

Cardbase - Accent Opaque 100 lb : 4 1/4" x 11" scored at 5 1/2"

Black panel - Accent Opaque 80 lb made black with a Black Marker: 5 1/4" x 4"

Sky and Grass Panel - Accent Opaque 80 lb: 5" x 3 3/4"

And that was it, very quick and simple card.

Good Day my crafty friends! 

I hope you are enjoying the lovely weather as much as I am, let me say that it does feel good not to freeze for a change.

It's time for another beautiful DT Card for the wonderful Jan from Jan's Digital Stamps. This weeks card was made using the My Mom's stamp and below are the products I used to make it come together.

First step on this wonderful journey was to go to Jans Digi Stamp Shop and download the My Mom stamp. I highly suggest that you head over the site to grab yours as it's on SALE fort the month of April. Did I say SALE?? Yes I did! There are also a few other wonderful new stamps who are also on sale so go check it out!

For this specific card, I resized the image to approximate 2.07" x 1.97" so that it would fit in the heart shape die. I then printed it on my Accent Opaque 80lb cardstock and colored it with my Ohuhu Markers.

Here is my list of markers:

Brown Hair - Y13, BR1, BR2

Blond Hair - YR2, YR33, Y6, Y1

Pink - P1, RP1, RP6, R15

Blue - PB4, PB2, PB1

Skin - E000, E00, E21, E11, E04, R20

Once I was done coloring my image, it was time to cut my different layers of cardstock.

Here is my list of cardstock with their dimensions:

Base Card - Accent Opaque 100 lb 4 1/4" x 11" scored at 5 1/2"

Navy Panel - Stampin Up Night of Navy 4" x 5 1/4"

Dark Red Strip - Stampin Up Black Berry Bliss 4" x 1 1/2"

Pattern Paper Panel - Simon Says Stamp - Love You Monthly Kit 3 7/8" x 5 1/8"

The heart was made with the largest die from Simon Says Stamp Hear Animal and to crate the border, all I did was to cut a heart on the Night of Navy cardstock and then place the die back in place and trace around the outside of the die which created the perfect frame. I then used my scissors to cut it out.

It was then time to use all the other dies from my die set to cut the other smaller hearts and the Sentiment. Everything was then stacked a few times to create dimensions using scrap cardstock and voila, my card was done.

I have to say that it's very difficult for me to use pattern paper but I have been stepping out of my comfort zone lately and it feels good.

JDS - Hello Spring

Hello my crafty friends!

Today I am sharing how I made this super fun Spring Card:

First you will need to purchase this pretty stamp set call SpringTime from Jan's Digital Shop. You can find it here at https://www.janmahew.com.

Please note that for the Month of March, the set is on Sale so what a perfect time to purchase it.

Once you download the stamp set, you will need to resize the PNG Image and Sentiment so that it fits properly for the card size of your choice. For this specific card, I decided to make mine 5.5" x 5.5" so I changed the height of the Flowers to 2.8" and the Hello Spring Sentiment to 1.4".

Once you position the image and sentiment exactly how you wanted them to appear on the card, it's time to send it to the printer. I find that the best setting for my personal toner printer is "Thicker Paper" so that it cures the toner on the cardstock. If you keep the settings to normal paper, it seems to smudge when I use my Alcohol Markers. I find that it's not such an issue with Neenah Solar White Cardstock 80 lb but if you are like me and prefer a cheaper alternative like Accent Opaque 80 lb, you will notice that it helps to change the settings.

For this card I used my brand new Ohuhu Markers so if you want to achieve the same result, here are the colors you will need:

Leaves - GY43, GY42, GY5, GY4

Flowers and Sentiment - R16, P4, P3, R11, Y6

Bucket - GG5, GG3, GG1

Shadow - CG II 00

It will then be time to cut your panel and the cardbase. Here are the different dimensions I used:

Top folding Cardbase - 100 lb Accent Opaque 5.5" x 11" scored at 5.5"

Panel - 80 lb Accent Opaque 5" x 5"

To add some dimension under the Panel, you can either use some foam tape, fun foam or like I did, stack 3 pieces of 4.75" x 4.75" cardstock. I prefer this technique as I find it sturdier and cheaper since I use pieces that I would have usually thrown out.

To glue everything together, I suggest a strong liquid adhesive or double sided tape. My favorite go to are either Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue or Gina K Connect because it gives you time to move your pieces around to position them just right. For the double sided tape, I like the Sookwang brand, it's very strong and easy to tare, no need of scissors.

And there you go, a very easy, clean and simple card! I want to mention that if you do not feel confident enough to color the image yourself, the beauty of Jan's Digital Images is that she also provides a pre-colored option in the set so that if you have a color printer, you can simply print the image and voila, your card is done.

Hello my crafty friends and welcome back to my blog.

Today's card was quite fun to do as I got to crack open my brand new set of Ohuhu Markers! I have to say that I am quite pleased with how they perform! For the price, you cannot go wrong. They blend very well and the brush tip is very similar to Copic. On top of it, the alcohol smell is way less noticeable. If you want to try alcohol markers and can't spend all your dollars on Copics, I highly recommend Ohuhu. I purchased the 120 set and I am quite pleased with the combos you can do with it.

Now to my card. I am using the brand new stamp set from Jan's Digital Stamps called SpringTime.

I first printed the Bird on some Accent Opaque 80lb cardstock and used the following Ohuhu Markers to color the image:

Blue: B64, PB8, PB7

Yellow: Y6, Y3,GY6

Next step was to create my panels. Here are the colors and dimensions of each pieces of cardstocks:

Stampin Up Granny Apple Green: 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 and 2 1/2 x 3 1/4 with Distress Oxide Broken China

Stampin Up Pacific Point: 5 1/4 x 4 with Distress Oxide Black Soot and Mowed Lawn

Simon Says Stamp Polka Dot: 5 x 3 3/4 with Distress Oxide Mustard Seed in a blotchy way all over and then Broken China

White Accent Opaque 80lb: 2 1/4 x 3 1/4b with Distress Oxide Broken China

I then stamped and fussy cut the word LOVE and glued each letter 3 times. The same was done with the BIRD. It was then time to assemble each layers and once all that was done, I added some hearts to balance the image on the card.

All letters and the hearts of course also have some sparkle from my SN Clear Sparkle Pen.

And voila, a quick, easy and fun card.

JDS - Flying by to say Hi!

Hello my Crafty Friends,

Today's DT card for Jan's Digital Stamps was quite fun to do. 

Flying by to say Hi!

I first started by inking seven different cardstock with my Distress Oxide Inks to create my Rainbow. Below are the inks I used:

Pink: Worn Lipstick, Picked Raspberries

Red: Candied Apple

Orange: Carved Pumpkin

Yellow: Mustard Seed

Green: Mowed Lawn

Blue: Blue Print Sketch

Purple: Seedless Preserves

I then proceeded to die cut seven rainbows using the Trinity Stamps Slimline Rainbow Builder Die Set and used one piece of each color to create the perfect Rainbow. 

Next step was to die cut my Clouds and to ink my Sky. To do so, I used one of the cloud piece with Distress Oxide Salty Ocean and a Blender Brush to ink clouds here and there on my Accent Opaque 80lb Panel.

For my Hot Air Balloon, I printed this beautiful digital stamp from JDS store called up-UP-AWAY! and colored the image with the following Copic and SN:

Balloon and Basket Fabric - V09, V06, V04

Ribbon - YG95, YG93, YG03

Sweater - IG3, B21, BG01, B000

Overall Pants - IG5, YG95, YG93, YG03

Basket - E37, E35, E37

Skin - E04, E11, E02, E000

Helmet - IG5, IG3, IG1

I have to confess that it was a challenge to color my image as most of my Copics are dry but I managed to mix different shades and for some miracle, my Green lasted until I was done so it all turned out ok.

I then assembled my card and cut my panel to 8 1/4 x 3 1/4 and glued it on a 8 1/2 x 7 top folding cardbase scored at 3 1/2.

The last step was to glue my sentiment.

JDS - Turner Syndrome Foundation Awareness

Hello my crafty friends!

Being a mom who's child died of a rare genetic disease called Meckel–Gruber Syndrome, I know too well how research and awareness is important. This being said, today's DT card for JDS is therefore a little special for me as it was created for the Turner Syndrome Foundation Awareness. TSF is a disease which affects only girls and women with often tragic results. If you want more information, you can read more about it here on the TSF Blog: Turner Syndrome Journey

Each February, TSF puts on a blog hop to help raise awareness and funds for research. As per previous years, Jan from JDS created a digital set for the Turner Foundation and will be donating the proceeds of sales of her two sets to TSF. The theme for this year's TSF cards is Lime, Pink and Yellow and here is my creation:

To create my Pink Background, I first used a Blender Brush to lightly ink my Accent Opaque 80lb cardstock with Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide ink. Usually, the goal is to get a smooth blend and to achieve that, we generally tend to tap the excess ink on our mat or a piece of scrap paper before bringing the brush to the cardstock which I did, but this time I also wanted a blotchy look so here and there I went direct to cardstock which gave the background a little contrast.

It was then time to add a touch of Yellow and Lime to my panel. My original plan was to use the Butterfly found in the TSF Key Stamp Set and create a Butterfly Stencil with my Cricut. I did create it but unfortunately, I didn't get to cut the stencil on time to create the card. Although I was disappointed that my plan went sideways, I did not let it stop me. My plan was to add some Sparkle Glitter Paste and I was not going to be defeated by the set back so I looked in my stash and found this cute little Star Stencil and that is what I used.

Now, most of you must already know that I am very careful when it comes to my craft supplies. Before purchasing anything, I always make sure that it will be an item that will be used several times and in several different ways. This being said, it means that I have very limited supplies and need to be creative. Today's card was no exception. The only Glitter Paste I have is Clear but that did not stop me. It is very easy to make your Glitter Paste the color you want, all you need is a little ink.

To make my Yellow Stars, I first added some Mustard Seed Distress Oxide onto my craft mat and mixed it with a little bit of Glitter Paste. Once it was mixed exactly as I wanted it, I then added the paste to the top of my stencil using my palet knife. My plan was to create a gradient which would slowly change from Yellow to Lime Green. To add the Green, I followed the first step but this time with Twisted Citron Distress Oxide and kept adding the paste to my stencil until I reached the bottom of the card. If you look closely, the bottom of the card is actually darker than Lime Green. This was not on purpose. I ran out of my Lime Green Mix and decided to create more. In the process, I grabbed the Lucky Clover by mistake which made the paste much darker but since it happened at the bottom of the card, it all worked out. No one would know that it was not intended that way.

I want to point out that Distress Oxide tends to reactivate with water or in this case Glitter Paste so before I added my paste through my stencil, I had to protect the pink cardstock to minimize the transfer of color. To achieve this, I added a little bit of Micro Glaze and with a paper towel, I buffed it very well all over the cardstock. Using the Micro Glaze helped seal the color under. I still had to be careful but it seemed to work well.

Please be aware that Glitter Paste has a tendency to dry very fast so please close the lid of your jar right away and wash your stencil as soon as you are done. If you have enough room where you craft, you can keep a bucket with some soapy water and simply throw the stencil and palet knife in until you are ready to wash everything. As for the jar, I have heard that using Press n Seal against the paste and then closing the lid helps to prevent drying. I intend to try that tick to see for myself.

Here is a closer look of my background:

When I added my Glitter Paste, for some reason, my stencil shifted when I was almost done which resulted with messed up stars. At first I was a bit disappointed and thought of starting over but again, I did not want to let it stop me. In order to hide the mess I simply added a piece of cardstock which hid the mistake perfectly. I inked that piece of cardstock with my Blender Brush and some Twisted Citron Distress Oxide ink with a touch of Lucky Clover around the edges to add some depth.

I then stamped my sentiment to the Green Strip and of course, I again messed up. For some reason there was a few black dots under the sentiment.. what a deception! Well of course you know me, it did not stop me. Using a 005 Micron Pen, I simply continued the dots all around the sentiment creating a stitched box. No one would know that it was not intended to be like that.

Here is a closer look at the sentiment:

It was then time to add the pretty Butterflies from Jan's TSF Key set. I printed the Butterfly a few different sizes and inked them with Mustard Seed Distress Oxide Ink. I then fussy cut and glued them all to my card. The bigger Butterfly was stacked 3 times to make it pop. As usual I had to add some sparkles with my SN Glitter Pen and I then thought that there was not enough contrast so I added a touch of Copic E33 and Y18.

Here is a closer look at the pretty Butterfly:

The Green Panel was created with a mix of the same Distress Oxides as the Green Strip. All Panels were stacked twice and everything was glued to a White Cardbase of Accent Opaque 100lb.

Those are the dimensions of each panels:

Pink Background: 3 3/4 x 5

Green Strip: 3 3/4 x 1 5/8

Green Panel: 4 x 5 1/4

White Panel: 4 1/4 x 5 1/2

Top Folding Cardbase: 11 x 4 1/4 scored and folded at 5 1/2

JDS - You're O-FISH-ALLY the BEST!

Hello my friends and welcome back to my blog!

Today's card is once again featuring a digital stamp from Jan's Digi Stamps and was inspired by the lovely Deb Davis from @amped2stamp. When I saw her card, I just had to case it and here is my take on it.

You're O-FISH-ALLY the BEST!

To create this card, I first copy/pasted and resized the FISH that came in the Stamp Set. I did this several times until I had a nice Background filled with FISH of different size and shape. The Background was then printed on Accent Opaque 80 lb Cardstock.

Using a Blender Brush, I lightly inked some Distress Oxide Mermaid Lagoon all over, and then colored the FISH with my Copic Markers.

Blue Fish - BG11, BG13
Yellow Fish - Y15, Y18, E35

Green Fish - Y15, Y18, BG13

The BIRD was then printed, fussy-cut and colored using the following Copic Markers:

Beak/Paws - Y15, Y18, E35
Fish - BG11, BG13

I then proceeded to cut and stack four 5 x 3 3/4 panels ending with a total of 2 panels with some dimension. The first panel was made with the Fish Background and the second one was with the Sentiment that I had previously printed on White Accent Opaque 80 lb Cardstock.

In order to follow the card I was casing, I created a sketch deciding where I would place my pieces and with a pencil I slightly marked where I would cut. Both panels were then cut exactly the same. The goal was to leave a 1/4 inch gap around each pieces. I then discarded the extra pieces that I would not need for my project.

All remaining pieces were then glued on a SSS Black 8 panel sized at 5 1/2 x 4 1/4. That panel was then glued to my top folding base card from Accent Opaque 100 lb Cardstock.

To finalize the card, I then glued my BIRD and using a 005 Micron Pen I created some stitched lines all around the panels which added a nice final touch.

JDS - It's a Girl!

Hi my crafty friends,

Today's DT Card was quite easy to do. Once again, I used an image from Jan's Digi Stamp Shop and this time I choose the Birthday Bear stamp.

It's a Girl

As you can see, although the stamp was made for a Birthday Card, I was able to use it for a different occasion. Don't be afraid to stretch your stamps and use them in ways that they were not intended to be. Since I do not celebrate any Holidays, I am getting quite an expert at finding ways to use Holiday Stamp Sets in a Non-Holiday way. You just need a bit of imagination.

To create this card, I first printed the Stars on a 4 x 5 1/4 Accent Opaque 80 lb Cardstock and used my Blender Brush to slightly ink here and there some Distress Oxide Picked Raspberry. I then printed and colored my Stars with Copic Markers and added a touch of Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle Pen to give it some Shine.

Purple Star: V09, V06

Pink Star: RV66, RV14

I then proceeded to print a few Balloons and inked them with a Blender Brush with a mix of Distress Oxide in Seedless Preserves and Picked Raspberry. To add some shine, I also added a touch of Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle Pen all over my Balloons.

The Bear was also printed on a  4 x 5 1/4 Accent Opaque 80 lb Cardstock and I colored it with the following Copic Markers:

Fur: E43, E41, E40, R20

Bow: RV66, RV14, RV11

I then Die-cut the word Girl, colored them with Copic V09 and V06. Each letter were stacked twice and of course, to add shine I added a touch of Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle Pen.

I used a Circle Die to create the hole on the Star Panel so that the Bear would show through once glued behind. To frame the window, I created a frame using that same die and one slightly bigger. The frame was stacked twice.

I then glued everything together and stacked my first two panels on a slightly bigger one (4 1/8 x 5 3/8) which I had inked the borders with my Copic Marker V09. My card was then mounted on a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 side folded Card base using Accent Opaque 100 lb Cardstock.

Now my final step should have been adding Glossy Accent to my Letters, Stars and Balloons and everything would have been perfect but since I never do things right, of course I jumped the gun and added the Glossy Accent BEFORE gluing my panels. Of course, when I tried to glue everything together, it was not completely dry and the Balloons got all messed up. I will fix it later by redoing the Balloons and gluing them on top of the original ones and only then will I add my Glossy Accent.

JDS - Hay there, Cow's it goin?

It's now time for a new challenge at the Jan's Digi Stamps Challenge Blog!

Today’s card was made using a wonderful image from Jan's Digital Stamp Shop called "West Main Barn". You can find it here at https://www.janmahew.com.

This card is pretty fun as it's a Mini Slim Card. The final size is actually only 6 x 3 3/8. My first panel is printed on Accent Opaque 80 lb Cardstock sized at 5 1/2 x 2 7/8 and I used the following Copics and SN to color the entire scene:

Barn: R46, R56 (Stacked Twice to make it pop)

Roof: IG1, IG3, IG4

Grass: YG03, YG93, Y18, Y21

Trees: YG03, YG93

As usual, I added 2 layers of  5 3/4 x 3 1/8 Black Cardstock under my focal image to make it pop and then glued the entire thing on a 6 x 3 3/8 card base from Accent Opaque 100 lb.

JDS - Cup of Coffee

Good Morning Crafty Friends!

Mel Sanz here with once again a DT card made for Jan’s Digi Stamps.

Today’s card is using the Digital Stamp "Espresso Yourself" found here in Jan's Digital Stamp Shop

One thing I love about Jan's images is that they also come pre-colored so if you don't feel confident with your coloring ability or if you need to do a quick card, this might be for you.

To create this card, I resized and printed a few coffee cups on X-Press it Copic friendly cardstock and colored the image using the following Copics:

Lid and Cup - W5, W3, W1, W0, W00

Sleeve - RV66, RV14, RV11

I then stacked my cup 3 times to give it dimensions and glued it on top of my 2 3/4 x 3 3/4 panel which  I had inked with Distress Oxide "Picked Raspberry". That panel was then glued on top of a 3 x 4 panel which I had previously colored the sides with Copic RV66.

My top panel which I had previously prepared with a blend of "Picked Raspberry" and "Seedless Preserves" Distress Oxides is cut at 4 x 5 1/4. You will also notice the Glitter Paste from Roger which was added with a stencil to my panel. It was mixed with some "Seedless Preserves" Distress Oxides. The top section of the card was inked with a background Stamp which was in turn also slightly inked with "Picked Raspberry" Distress Oxide ink.

The cardstock I used for all panels is Accent Opaque 80 lb. The entire creation was then glued to a 5 ½ x 4 ¼ top folding card made with Accent Opaque 100 lb cardstock.
